WBAY, Green Bay, Wisconsin Representative John Macco (R-Ledgeview) of Wisconsin is requesting that the National Football League and the Green Bay Packers reevaluate their planned game in Brazil.
The NFL’s inaugural game in South America to begin the regular season will feature the Green Bay Packers. At Corinthians Arena in São Paulo on Friday, the Packers take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rep. Macco requests that the NFL reevaluate the game, citing a number of problems in Brazil.
“Given the present political and social milieu in Brazil, I implore the National Football League (NFL) and the Green Bay Packers to reevaluate the Friday game that is set to take place there. The concerning accounts of increasing unrest, violence, and severe censorship directed towards American corporations
The recent news that a Brazilian Supreme Court panel unanimously upheld one of its justices’ decisions to restrict billionaire Elon Musk’s social networking platform X worldwide on Monday may be the source of the “censorship” issue.
Furthermore, in a recent interview, at least one NFL player—Eagles cornerback Darius Slay—expressed worries about Brazil’s crime rate.
Wildfires are currently raging in Brazil as well.
According to a statement from Rep. Macco, “hosting a game in such an environment not only risks sending messages contrary to the values the NFL and the Packers stand for, but it also puts players, staff, and fans in danger.” “Relocating the game to the United States, where safety can be guaranteed, would be in the NFL’s best interest.”
