Emma Navarro extended her successful 2024 season at the US Open by defeating defending champion Coco Gauff in the fourth round of the tournament. This marked Navarro’s second straight victory against the American No.1.

Navarro started the fourth match against Gauff strongly, matching her powerful shots with smart play and longer rallies. Despite Gauff making a comeback in the second set, Navarro stayed focused and raised her game in the final set.

She capitalized on Gauff’s mistakes and won the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.Gauff’s 60 unforced errors and 19 double faults played a big part in her defeat.

As a result, Emma Navarro has made it to her second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal. The 23-year-old was extremely happy and said nice things about Coco Gauff during her interview on the court after the match. Navarro complimented Gauff and predicted that she would win the US Open again, even though she didn’t defend her title this year.

It’s worth noting that Navarro has reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the second time by defeating Gauff in the fourth round. The first time this happened was at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Emma Navarro will now compete against Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open. Both players will be playing in their first quarterfinal match at the tournament and will be aiming for a spot in the semifinals, which would be their first at a Grand Slam event.

Navarro, who is seeded 13th in New York, has already won matches against Anna Blinkova, Arantxa Rus, 16th seed Marta Kostyuk, and third seed Coco Gauff.

Meanwhile, the 26th seed Paula Badosa is showing great skill on the North American hard court swing at the 2024 US Open. She recently won her first title in over two years at the WTA 500 Citi Open in Washington, DC, and made it to the semifinals at the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open.

During the Flushing Meadows tournament, Badosa defeated Viktorija Golubic, Taylor Townsend, Elena Gabriela-Ruse, and Wang Yafan to reach her second Grand Slam quarterfinal. Badosa and Navarro have faced each other once on the WTA Tour, with Badosa winning the match at the 2024 Italian Open.
