The unsettling incident involving the alleged beheading of Mohammed Saidu, age six, by a 16-year-old Almajiri known only as Abdullahi, who was then lynched by a mob in Kanwa village, Madobi local government area of the state, has prompted the Kano State Police Command to launch a comprehensive investigation.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, disclosed that the suspect, Abdullahi, a native of Zamfara State, was apprehended in Kanwa village by a concerned citizen while in possession of a bloodstain-stained knife that was purportedly used for the crime.

According to CP Gumel, the suspect confessed to the crime and said he had dumped the victim’s head in a pit latrine next to the elementary school when police arrived.

As a result, the suspect was set upon by a vengeful mob and lynched. After being saved, Abdullahi was taken to Kwankwaso Cottage Hospital where he was given treatment, but he died there.

According to what was learned, Abdullahi moved to the village in 2021 and left the area four months ago before making an abrupt comeback to allegedly carry out his horrible deed.

Umar Maitama Yusuf, the village head, verified the incident happened on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at around nine in the morning.

He said that the suspect had been employed by the victims’ parents as a houseboy in the past but had been fired for suspected theft.

More than two years ago, Mallam Abdulrauf, an Islamic scholar from Katsina, brought Abdullahi to Kanwa. The village chief stated, “He came here two years ago and left four months ago.
