Sharon Stone has come to Sydney Sweeney’s defense following the backlash over her American Eagle “Good Jeans” campaign. The controversy sparked debate when some critics accused the ad of promoting eugenics, given its tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes,” a play on words referencing both genetics and jeans.

Stone, Sweeney’s co-star on Euphoria, shared her conversation with the young actress, revealing she drew parallels between Sweeney’s situation and Jane Goodall’s experience. Goodall, the renowned primatologist, faced criticism suggesting she landed a Life Magazine cover due to her appearance rather than scientific achievements. Goodall responded that if her looks helped raise funds for her research, she considered it a plus.

Sweeney echoed this sentiment, saying, “Yeah, and I’m sure I made a billion dollars for the jeans company, and I’m good with that. Because, you know what? I’ll get another job”

Stone praised Sweeney’s confidence, stating, “She understands herself. She is comfortable and centered, and safe within herself”. Stone also emphasized embracing one’s beauty, saying, “It’s okay to use what mama gave you. It’s really fine”

The incident highlights Sweeney’s professionalism and poise under scrutiny. Director Paul Feig, who worked with Sweeney on The Housemaid, called the controversy “manufactured” by media, adding Sweeney is “one of the most confident people I’ve ever met”
