Jannik Sinner made it to the US Open semifinals, making it to the final four at all four Grand Slam tournaments, a milestone that his rival Carlos Alcaraz has not accomplished yet. Sinner defeated fifth seed Daniil Medvedev to reach his first semifinal at the New York Major.
The Italian and the Russian easily won the first three sets, with Sinner winning two of them. In a more challenging fourth set, the World No.1 won again with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Sinner’s advancement to the final four at the New York Major made him the fourth active player to reach the semifinals of all Grand Slams. He did this at Wimbledon last year and again at the Australian Open and French Open this year. The other three active players who have achieved this are Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Marin Cilic.
Currently, Carlos Alcaraz has not made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open. Even though he has won the other three Grand Slams, he has only made it as far as the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Even though Jannik Sinner has made it to the semifinals of all the Grand Slams before Carlos Alcaraz, the World No.1 is still behind in terms of the number of titles won compared to the Spaniard.
Alcaraz has won four Grand Slam titles in his career so far. He won his first one as a teenager by beating Casper Ruud in the final of the US Open in 2022. His second Major came in 2023, when he defeated Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon that year.

He won two more Grand Slams in 2024 at the French Open and Wimbledon, by defeating Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in the finals respectively. On the other hand, Jannik Sinner has only won one Major, which was at this year’s Australian Open.
He made an impressive comeback from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev in the title match. In the upcoming semifinal clash at the US Open 2024, Sinner will face 25th seed Jack Draper, who reached the final four of a Major for the first time in his career by beating tenth seed Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2. The winner of this match will then play against either 12th seed Taylor Fritz or 20th seed Frances Tiafoe in the final.
