Fredro says, “He was giving me that side-eye.”

Although 2Pac was formerly the face of Death Row Records, Fredro Starr claims that the late icon did everything within his power to prevent him from suffering the same fate. In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Fredro talked about meeting 2Pac and Suge Knight at the Sunset Park film premiere in 1996. Following their collective viewing of the film, Suge asked Fredro to have a private conversation before extending a serious offer.
“So, just the three of us—me, 2Pac, and Suge Knight—we go for a walk,” Fredro said. “I want to sign you to Death Row,” Suge said at that point. And I’m thinking, “Huh?” What topic are you discussing? Suge Knight was known for being… “Pac is the sun, Suge Knight is the moon,” I said when discussing energy. He received the evil energy. I was kind of shaken when he said, “I want to sign you to Death Row.”

“But I’m already signed to Def Jam,” I said to myself. I was attempting to make sense of the situation. “No, don’t give that any thought.” I will work that out. This [Jam Master] Jay, I know. Russell Simmons, I know him. I will see to that. There’s nothing to be concerned about,” he said. When he glanced at 2Pac at that moment, the hitmaker’s expression said it all.
“[T]he na 2Pac gave me that side-eye as he looked at me. He wasn’t supporting the nonsense. He did not say, “Yeah, na!” Na, sign with Death Row! It’s blowing up! That na didn’t tell me anything about that. He said, “That na was quiet.” With a look on his face, I could tell he didn’t want to do this, brother. My na, stay where you are.'” What do you think of Fredro Starr’s claim that 2Pac gave him a simple facial expression warning not to sign to Death Row? Do you find this surprising?
