Lead actress Rosa Salazar is excited to play her role again and is actively advocating for the sequel to be made.

Producer Jon Landau recently mentioned that discussions are ongoing for the highly anticipated sequel to Alita: Battle Angel.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Landau confirmed that he, director Robert Rodriguez, and writer and producer James Cameron are in talks and are excited to continue the story they started in the first movie.

“Yes, I just answered that I knew before you even got there. I’m very proud of that film, and we were doing it concurrently with Avatar. I was down with Robert on the set doing all that, and Jim was involved too and saw it. It came on HBO one night, and Jim watched it and called me after he watched it. He said, “Jon, Alita was on, I just decided to watch it. It’s a good movie.” (laughs) And it is! So, I want to be able to definitely do more in that world.”

In 2019, Alita: Battle Angel was released, which is based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga Gunnm. The story follows a young girl named Alita, a battle cyborg who wakes up with no memory of her past in a future world she doesn’t know. The movie has gained a very devoted fan base called the ‘Alita Army’ who are still pushing for a sequel.

Recently, many people have shown excitement for the possibility of Alita 2.
James Cameron even mentioned in June 2023 that plans are in motion for a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel. He said he will be working on the new films in Austin, showing that progress is being made.

However, it’s not only fans and people working behind the scenes who are hoping for Alita to make a comeback.

The main actress, Rosa Salazar, has expressed her excitement to return to the franchise. She mentioned last year that she is very enthusiastic about reprising the main role and has been persistently contacting Robert Rodrigeuz and James Cameron to push things forward.

“I constantly bother them. It could turn into a legal problem soon.I exchange emails with James Cameron frequently….And he always says, ‘I’m interested. ’ It’s surprising to hear someone like James Cameron saying, ‘I’m interested! ’ During South by Southwest, I visited Robert (Rodriguez)’s home, had tea, and discussed Alita.”

Continuing, Salazar said how crucial Alita’s story is to many people and emphasized the importance of continuing the story.

“We all love it so much. It’s always on our minds. Everything we do, we’re always thinking about how to bring it back. We are working hard to bring her story back because we know how important it is to women, young girls, boys, and everyone.
She represents something that goes beyond race, gender, and more. We are putting in a lot of effort to make it happen!”

Furthermore, Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron have both vowed to ensure that Alita 2 will be produced, if you needed more convincing that it will happen.
