“I shouldn’t be here,” said the likely Republican candidate for president.

In a recent interview published on Monday, former President Donald Trump mentioned that a small movement of his head made a big difference in his survival during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

He shared with reporters on Sunday, while traveling to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention on his private jet, that he turned at just the right time and angle to avoid the bullet hitting a critical part of his head. Trump emphasized that a slight turn in the other direction would have been fatal.

“I looked up because the sign was high,” said the former president. He thought the chances of making a perfect turn were very low, maybe one-tenth of one percent. He felt like he wasn’t supposed to be there.
The bullet was moving fast near his head, and he remembered having to be at just the right angle.

He mentioned that the bullet was only an eighth of an inch away. It was amazing that he turned at that exact moment, and the shooter didn’t stop the shot. He said, “I’m really not supposed to be here. ” The former president’s doctor, Rep.

Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), shared on social media that he talked to the former president recently. The former president was looking at a chart about illegal migration into the United States when the shooter attacked at an event in Bethel Hill, about an hour away from Pittsburgh.

In a post on Truth Social Sunday, former President Trump said that he thinks God saved his life, stopping something terrible from happening.

Some other Republicans have also shared similar feelings. The FBI named the suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks, who is 20 years old. Agents mentioned on Sunday that they think he acted by himself in what they called an attempted assassination.

As of Monday morning, federal officials have not found a reason or if he was motivated by political hate, but they are looking into it as domestic terrorism.

Pennsylvania State Police officials reported that Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed in the shooting. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were injured but are now in stable condition.

The former president, along with Republicans and Democrats, are urging for unity following the assassination attempt.
Some are also calling for politicians and the media to reduce the use of highly partisan language.

Former President Trump expressed his desire for unity, acknowledging that there are good people on both sides.
However, he questioned whether the two sides can come together.

GOP Chairman Michael Whatley told Newsmax on Sunday that they will have a strong security presence at the event in Milwaukee, where the former president is expected to be officially nominated as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate.

Whatley mentioned the collaboration with the Secret Service and various law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin to ensure the safety of the 50,000 attendees, including delegates, guests, alternates, and members of the press. The convention is scheduled from Monday, July 15, to Thursday, July 18.

Before the nomination, former President Trump is set to announce his running mate.
Following a recent incident, Trump decided to change his speech to focus on bringing the country together.

“I believe it would be detrimental if I suddenly began ranting about how awful everyone is, and how dishonest and corrupt, even if it’s accurate,” he stated. “Before this incident, we had a speech prepared that was quite harsh. Now, we have a speech that is more about bringing people together.”
