The Green Bay Packers have proven that they are not afraid to make big changes in recent years. They have let go of Davante Adams in 2022, Aaron Rodgers in 2023, Aaron Jones in 2024, and David Bakhtiari in 2024, year after year.
One report suggests that another move may be coming soon.Green Bay Packers picked 26-year-old A.J.Dillon in the 2020 NFL Draft. He is now joined by new player Josh Jacobs and rookie MarShawn Lloyd.
Lloyd was chosen by the Packers from USC in the 2024 draft at No.88. Jacobs is considered the leader of the Packer trio.
He is a two-time Pro Bowler who signed a four-year/$48M contract with Green Bay. Jacobs will be receiving most of the handoffs from Jordan Love this season, while Dillon will be the secondary ground attacker.
Reports suggest that Lloyd is currently considered the third option for the team as they head into camp. However, it is possible that this may soon change. Liam Hanley from ClutchPoints recently identified Dillon as one of the top three players from the Packers who could be traded in the upcoming offseason.
Hanley pointed out Lloyd’s increasing talent as a sign that a trade could be on the horizon. According to Hanley, Lloyd has the potential to become the team’s main running back in the future. He described Lloyd as a skilled playmaker with good size and speed, who could serve as a reliable option for the Packers on third downs and as a change-of-pace runner.
AJ Dillon should be concerned about the potential for Lloyd to surpass him in the Green Bay offense. Lloyd’s speed and success in college could make Dillon’s position on the team uncertain, leading to a possible trade.
It seems likely that Dillon will be leaving the team soon, especially considering his declining performance last season, the addition of Jacobs, and the arrival of Lloyd.
Additionally, Dillon’s yards per carry have decreased each year he has been in the NFL, making him an attractive trade option with a low salary cap hit in 2024.
The Packers appear ready to trade Dillon, and now we just need to find out which team will make a deal for him. Despite Dillon being popular with the Packers, it might be best for the team to move on from him for the offense.
