Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello has been listed as wanted by the EFCC on suspicion of stealing N80 billion from the Kogi treasury.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is seeking the arrest of YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO, the former governor of Kogi State, whose photo is displayed above, in connection with a suspected case of money laundering totaling N80,246,470,089.88 (eighty billion, two hundred and forty-six million, four hundred and seventy thousand and eighty-nine naira, eighty-eight kobo).

“Bello, a 48-year-old Ebiraman, is a native of Kogi State’s Okenne Local Government. The EFCC stated that 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja is his last known address.

Less than twenty-four hours had passed since the EFCC had set up a besiege to apprehend the outgoing governor and try to bring criminal charges against him for the alleged misdeeds committed during his eight years in office.

According to a Peoples Gazette article published on Wednesday, at approximately 9:00 a.m., EFCC agents and armed security guards blocked Mr. Bello’s Abuja residence’s two entrances on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4.

The EFCC said that when it attempted to execute the legally obtained arrest warrant against Mr. Bello at his apartment, there was fierce resistance. The statement was made public on Wednesday night and was signed by the organization’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.

The anti-graft agency further claimed that Mr. Ododo ensured that Mr. Bello was driven away in his official vehicle.

Mr. Bello fled his trial at the federal high court in Abuja on Thursday during his arraignment. EFCC attorney Kemi Phinro told the court that Mr. Bello’s nonattendance was an attempt to stall his trial.

Mr. Bello was urged to turn himself in to law enforcement so that he could answer to charges of corruption by AGF Lateef Fagbemi.
