Novak Djokovic decided to withdraw from the Canadian Open and the 2024 Cincinnati Open to rest and recover after his successful performance at the Olympics.
Djokovic hasn’t had a great season in the first seven months compared to last year, when he was breaking records. However, this season is more important for him in many ways.
Although he had a better season last year objectively, this season was special because he won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, which he had wanted for a long time. He achieved this recently by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final in an iconic manner.
The Spaniard was expected to win the event as he had been playing excellent tennis before the match. However, Djokovic ended up winning and celebrated enthusiastically. This victory had been a long time coming and was his main goal for the season, making it a very emotional experience for him.
He didn’t win any Grand Slams this year, but winning the medal made all the hard work worth it. Trying to win that medal was tough on him physically and emotionally. He used a lot of energy to try and win, so now he needs time to rest.
The hardest part was dealing with all the emotions that came with winning. We saw how he celebrated and cried tears of joy right away. It takes time to process all those emotions, and he’s taking the time to do that noe.He decided not to play in the Canadian Open because it began right after the Olympics, so he pulled out of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal.
Novak Djokovic has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Cincinnati Open. Some people thought he might participate in the tournament since it is the last ATP Masters 1000 event before the US Open. Going into the US Open with few matches on hard courts would not be great for the 37-year-old player. However, his main focus is likely on something else right now after his gold medal win.
Additionally, he won the Cincinnati Open last year, which is why many expected him to play this year as well. But as the defending champion, he will not be competing in the tournament.

However, Djokovic’s main focus is on prioritizing other things before the US Open, despite being a 24-time major winner.
He recently had knee surgery and competed in Wimbledon and the Olympics wearing a knee brace. While in Paris, he acknowledged experiencing some minor problems with his knee.
