The Crow, originally created by James O’Barr, is being remade into a new movie set to be released in theaters this summer. In order to bring the story up to date, Bill Skarsgård’s character, Eric, has been given a modern look inspired by today’s rap stars.

This is a departure from Eric Draven’s appearance in the original comic. In an interview with Empire Magazine (as reported by /Film), Skarsgård talked about his character’s appearance in the film.

He mentioned that he felt he was too muscular for the role at the time of filming, believing that Eric should have a thinner physique. Skarsgård suggested that, realistically, Eric should be much leaner — at least before his resurrection as a vengeful vigilante brought back from the dead.

I found it odd that I was in such good shape for Eric,” the actor said. “I hoped he would appear much thinner! He was never someone who exercised. Ideally, he would have been less fit in the beginning of the movie.”

Skarsgård has also mentioned that he has a problem with the movie’s plot, especially the ending. Without giving away any surprises, the actor suggested that the ending was left somewhat vague, maybe to set up a sequel.
Skarsgård personally liked endings that were more clear-cut.

The new adaptation of The Crow will have some differences, but the main idea remains the same. FKA Twigs will play Shelly, Eric’s lover, in the film. They are both killed by thugs, but a crow brings Eric back to life as a vigilante for revenge. The movie is expected to be very violent.

Rupert Sanders directed the film, written by Zach Baylin and William Schneider. It’s produced by Edward R.Pressman, Molly Hassell, Victor Hadida, John Jencks, and Samuel Hadida.
