Following the incident at the church service about Ms. Anyim Veronica’s academic status on Sunday, the Dunamis International Gospel Centre headquarters in Abuja has stated that its senior pastor, Dr. Paul Enenche, has no intention whatsoever to harm, hurt, or embarrass Ms. Veronica.

Veronica had stated in her testimony that she received a B.Sc. in law from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) the day before on Saturday. However, a furious Pastor Enenche interrupted, calling the woman a liar and saying that there was no B.Sc. in law and that it was either she got an LL.B. or she didn’t go to school at all.

But pictures of Miss Veronica Anyim from her graduation day and a list proving she graduated from NOUN’s Department of Law have taken the internet by storm. This has led to a flurry of criticism directed at the church and her senior pastor from online users, many of whom are demanding an apology from the woman.

However, the Dunamis International Gospel Centre defended itself and its senior Pastor in a statement released on Monday night and signed by Sylvester Edoh, the personal assistant and secretary to the senior pastor, claiming that reports of the incident on social media and in traditional media were taken out of context.

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the Glory Dome, the global headquarters of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, a scenario was set 0up when Ms. Anyim Veronica Nnenna testified about how God had enabled her to graduate from university and become the first person in her family to do so.

The following were the scenario’s immediate triggers:
First, it seems that the testifier did not live up to the minimal standards expected of a graduate, particularly one who studied law, based on the way they expressed themselves, which verges on basic spoken English.

Secondly, mentioning that she spent ten years studying law raised the question of what her degree was in reality.

Third, she misrepresented the degree as a BSc in Law, which is not widely recognized as a legal degree in Nigeria or perhaps anywhere else in the world. Instead, she claimed that the correct degree for law is an LLB.

These led Senior Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche to abruptly end the testimony, calling it the result of a “lie.” When it was eventually established that she had truly graduated from a university, relief did, however, come.

“It is imperative to emphasize that the testifier’s public humiliation and the ensuing media storm were unintentional; everything that transpired was spontaneous,” the statement stated.

The church stated that the Senior Pastor’s action was primarily motivated by their dislike of “seeming mediocrity” and any hint of dishonesty.

“We want to emphasize that the Senior Pastor never meant any hurt or harm to Ms. Anyim Veronica, even as we continue to be steadfast in our passion for excellence and intolerance of mediocrity and falsehood. The Senior Pastor has already contacted her out of genuine concern.

The Commission is sorry for any inconvenience, hurt, or shame that Ms. Anyim Veronica Nnenna has had as a result of this unfortunate event. We are still devoted to promoting both her spiritual development and physical well-being. It said, God bless us all.
