According to a recent survey of NFL agents, the Pittsburgh Steelers were seen as one of the top-performing teams in the league, with general manager Omar Khan also receiving praise.
In an article by Ben Standig of The Athletic that sought the views of anonymous NFL agents on the best-managed franchises, the Steelers received two votes, placing them in a tie for fifth place. The only teams with more votes were the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Green Bay Packers.
“The Steelers are a consistent and traditional franchise,” remarked one agent. “They don’t mess around, and they consistently achieve success on the field.”
There’s no doubt about it. Head coach Mike Tomlin has had a winning record for all 17 years he’s been in charge, and the Steelers haven’t ended up in last place since the late 80s. This also means that the Steelers haven’t finished in last place since the AFC North was created in 2002.
When agents were questioned about which general manager they trust the most, Khan received two votes, tying for third place. The only executives who got more votes were New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and Chiefs general manager Brett Veach.
One agent wrote, “Omar Khan and (Steelers assistant GM) Andy Weidl make a great team. They are considered the best. ” While having a good reputation with agents is not the only factor in attracting free agents, it is definitely beneficial. It is clear that Khan is doing well in this area.
