As a prolific breakbuilder, O’Sullivan has compiled 811 career centuries, more than any other player in history. He also holds the record for the most ratified maximum breaks in professional competition (12), and for the three fastest competitive maximum breaks, the quickest of which was compiled in 5 minutes and 20 seconds.
After winning his fourth World Championship in 2012, O’Sullivan announced he would be taking an “extended break” from the sport. Originally, this was meant to be up until the 2012 British Open, but on 24th October, he announced he would not be playing for the remainder of the 2012/13 season.
On 24th February 2013, four months after his official withdrawal from the 2012/13 season, O’Sullivan signed the Professional Players Contract for the 2013/14 season, thus making him eligible to compete at the 2013 World Snooker Championship. On March 1st 2013, O’Sullivan announced via twitter that he would be retaining his title in Sheffield, and did so, beating China’s Ding Junhui in the final.
