Atiku questioned Tinubu’s decision to award the Lagos Calabar coastal road contract to Gilbert Chagoury’s Hitech without competitive bidding.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday doubled down on his criticism of the Lagos Calabar coastal road project, challenging President Bola Tinubu revealed the total cost of the expressway project.

Atiku, in a statement, asserted that the Tinubu administration cannot continue to remain silent on the amount of public money that will be spent on the project at a time when Nigeria is still facing serious economic challenges.

The former vice president, through media adviser Paul Ibe, has questioned the Tinubu administration’s decision to award the coastal road contract to Gilbert Chagoury’s Hitech without competitive bidding.

He also questioned why the Tinubu administration allocated N1.06 trillion for the pilot phase, or 6% of the project, which started at Eko Atlantic and is expected to end at the Water Port Lekki worm.

However, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, responded that Atiku had allowed himself to be led into a dead end by “ignorant assistants” in his desperate bid to gain attention. idea.

Onanuga said contrary to Atiku’s proposal, the coastal road project was lauded because it would improve the quality of life of Nigerians and the economies of the nine coastal states it would pass through, especially in the fields of agriculture and tourism.

Onanuga had stated: Seeking to become a murderer, Atiku Abubakar engaged in a diversion by making reckless allegations, which only shows that he and his group have no ability to gather basic information about a problem he is trying to solve. bring down the government.

But Atiku’s latest statement read: The Tinubu administration cannot continue to respond to the public inquiry with insults. They must tell the truth about this project because Nigerians deserve to know the truth. Therefore, I present six installers to the administration.

“What is the total cost of the Lagos Calabar Coastal Expressway?

“Why was the project funded by the Nigerian government even though it was a PPP project?” Why did the project take off from Eko Atlantic in Chagoury?

“Why was N1.06 trillion spent on the testing phase, which is only 47km long?

Why was the sum of N1.06 trillion not approved by the National Assembly? Why is there no notice inviting bids for the project?

“Finally, how did the Tinubu administration come up with the design as well as the roadmap in just seven months, considering they claim that the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari never touched the project? »

Atiku requests the Tinubu government, in the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act, to answer each question one by one instead of taking the trivial route of insulting their way out of trouble” in each investigation check.
