The Sikh Museum Initiative has launched an exhibition of contemporary Sikh art at Leicester Adult Education Centre.
The 100 works of art have been created by talented local, national and international artists and include paintings, poems, 3D printed materials, phulkari (traditional Punjabi textiles) and specially commissioned objects .
Kartal Singh, Executive Director of the Sikh Museum Initiative, introduced the launch by providing an overview of the World Heritage projects the team is working on.
Kelly Gray from Leicester Adult College noted that the 2018 Sikh Art Exhibition, also organized by the Sikh Museum Initiative, was one of the “most popular” exhibitions, and said it was great to see such vibrancy on site. Pupils from Falcons Primary School received an award of excellence for their contribution to the creation of the artwork featured in the exhibition. Gurinder Singh Mann, historian and director of the Sikh Museum Initiative, said:
“Although this exhibition is from a Sikh perspective, it will appeal to people from all walks of life.»
The exhibition began with a ribbon cutting by an employee. Manjula Sood and Sukhnoor Kaur from Falcons Elementary School. It is also open to visitors during the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi in April.

The launch was attended by Leicester City Councilors, Gurdwaras and Claudia Webb. Many artists came from all over the country including London, Leeds and Birmingham. The event was filmed by Punjab2000 and Sikh Channel.
The exhibition will run from March 21st to May 30th at Leicester Adult Education Center.
