A group of fifteen students from Isle of Wight College boarded Wightlink’s St Clare ferry, obtaining an exclusive look at how it functions.

Captain Dave Booker welcomed the students, who are all enrolled in the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism, to Portsmouth for a study day.

“At sea, no two days are the same,” stated Captain Dave Booker.

“We take great pleasure in describing the steps we take to maintain a dependable and effective service that gets our clients where they’re going while providing them with the greatest views of the Solent.”

Among other important features, the learners were demonstrated how to use sophisticated electronic charts in various weather conditions and tides. They also learned how the company’s marketing department entices vacationers from the mainland to the island.

“We support our students to gain the skills to succeed,” said Lindsay Davies, a tutor, “because the travel and tourism industry offers so many opportunities.”

“I worked in a number of resorts throughout Europe, North Africa, and the Caribbean as a vacation representative for TUI before moving on to team management.

“I now use the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career at this college to support our students in developing their self-confidence and realizing their goals.”
