Calvin Ridley, a former wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, took the court for the first time on Friday in Nashville. Naturally, the seasoned wide receiver had a lot to say.

On Wednesday, Ridley signed a four-year, $92 million contract with the Titans, which

included $50 million in guarantees. It is evident that the Jaguars were unwilling to offer

Ridley this deal. And, of course, Ridley’s first remarks as a Titan were replete with references

to money. It wasn’t the only topic discussed; DeAndre Hopkins and the two offenses’ fit were also brought up.

“I am aware that D-Hop is present, but I also wanted to play with a different receiver on the

opposing team so that I could focus on my strengths. I am aware of their excellent defense,

upcoming status, and other things. “I was investigating it,” Ridley remarked. “There were a

lot of things that weren’t working out for me, so I decided to go with the Titans over the Jags

because I felt like they had a different side for me. I decided to go with that because the

money was obviously pretty good.” However, it was also evident that Ridley’s decision to

look for a new team at the beginning of free agency was not solely based on money.

“There are a lot of weapons in Jacksonville, and sometimes I felt a little strange being someone who always wanted the ball and wanted to win the game for us,” Ridley remarked” I want to be the guy that, well, keeps me interested in the game the entire time. I was like, really, I want to come over here and take over and do my thing. I want to do everything in my power to support this team and help them soar through the roof.”

In 2023, Ridley caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns, marking his second career 1,000-yard season. Despite missing the majority of the 2021 season and serving a season-long suspension in 2022, he also managed to stay healthy throughout the entire season, starting all 17 games. In the end, Ridley’s season was acquired by the Jaguars in exchange for a fifth-round and a third-round selection. With Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, Zay Jones, Devin Duvernay, Parker Washington, Tim Jones, and Elijah Cooks in the wide receiver room, they will now advance.
