Antoine Dupont, the captain of France’s rugby team, has been selected to compete for Olympic gold in rugby sevens later this month. The French Rugby Federation announced on Monday that Dupont is part of the 12-man squad for the Paris Games. To prepare for this opportunity, Dupont opted out of this year’s Six Nations tournament to fully immerse himself in the faster-paced sevens format and integrate into the national sevens squad.

Dupont played a crucial role in France’s recent success in sevens, contributing to their first leg victory since 2005 in Los Angeles in February and securing another win in Madrid by the end of the season. Despite participating in just three out of eight legs, he was honored with the Rookie of the Year award.

In addition to his achievements in sevens, Dupont had a remarkable season with Toulouse. He helped his club secure the Champions Cup in May and the Top 14 title in June, notably scoring two tries in the final against Bordeaux-Begles, bringing his season tally to 11 tries.
